A Brief History of Islamic Culture

Muslimcreed Man is the only being Allah who is given the gift of using reason, so using has specificity, even humans are given the ability to analyze something in their lives. So according to that, about people who are not possible regardless of the name history, because using this history humans can learn and analyze incidents that occur in the future.

History is a reflection based on our later life & can be used as a self-introspection. Likewise, using the history of Islamic civilization is a tool to look at events that occurred in the past or become a reference to be more able to advance Islam than before. Islamic civilization is a very broad study.

As will be explained in this paper, Islamic civilization is closely related to culture but permanent are 2 different things. In culture, it covers also civilization, but not vice versa. To know more about the meaning & scope of the history of Islamic civility, this paper will explain it more clearly.

1. Understanding the History of Islamic Civilization.

Definition of HistoryEtymologically it is derived from the Arabic word “syajarah” which means “tree of life” & which we know in the ilmiyah language namely History.

Historical characteristics using its discipline can be reviewed based on 3 orientations first: history is the knowledge of the events of events, events & the state of human beings in the past about the present state.

Second: history is the knowledge of hokum that seems to control the life of the past, which is obtained through investigations & analysis or events of past events.Third: history is a philosophy that is based on knowledge of people’s changes, using other terms history like this is a scientific science about the process of a society.

  • Historical uses

History has an important significance in life as well as history has several uses, among the uses of history, including:- For the equality of group identity & strengthening the resilience of that group for survival.- History is useful as a lesson-taking and tauladan according to the model of the example in the past so that history puts the principle of benefits more specifically on the biodiversity pandemic.

History serves as a means of understanding life & death. Thus the importance of history in this life in the Qur’an itself can be found in several stories of prophets & figures of the past including:

2. The Meaning of Islamic

CivilizationFrom the root of the word madana was born the term tamaddun object which means civilization which means also a city based on culture (city base culture) or city culture (culture of the city). Among the writers of The Republic, the word tamaddun was used – if not mistakenly – for the first time by Jurji Zaydan in the title of the book Tarikh al-Tamaddun al-Islami (History of Islamic Civilisation), published 1902-1906.

Since then the word Tamaddun has been widely used among Muslims. In the Malay world, tamandua is used for the study of civilization.

In Iran, people use the terms slightly differently using the termstamaddon and madaniyat. But in Turkey people by using the roots madinahatau madana or madaniyyah use the words medeniyet and medeniyeti.

The Arabs themselves in the present-day use the term hadharah for civilization, but the term is not accepted by non-Arab Islamic ummah who mostly prefer the term tamaddun. In the Indo-Pakistani subcontinent, it is used only for the definition of culture, while civilization uses the term tahdhib.

The word civilization is often associated with culture even, many western writers identify “culture”&s”> “civilization” in Islam. Often Islamic civilization is linked to the Arab civilization even though it is actually between Arabs and Islam permanently able to be distinguished. The difference between these cultures is to use the increase in civilization during the jahiliyyah period which originated according to ignorance.

This eventually changed when Islam arrived, brought by the prophet Muhammad SAW in Arabia. So that in the past Islam developed into a civilization that merged with the Arab nation and even developed rapidly to other parts of the global, Islam was not just a complete belief but the origin of Islamic civilization.

The foundation of Islamic civilization is that Islamic culture is mainly its ideal form, while the foundation of Islamic culture is religious.

Islam is nir for example citizens who adhere to other beliefs, religion is not cultural but can give birth to culture. if culture is the result of the creation, taste, and feelings of people, then Islamic beliefs are revelations from civilization.

Civilization is a culture related to science & technology where the culture is influential in its home region and affects other regions that make the culture develop.

3. History of Islamic civilization

The history of Islamic civilization is defined as the development or progress of Islamic culture from its historical perspective, and Islamic civilization has various kinds of other understandings, including- The history of Islamic civilization is the progress and level of intelligence of reason produced in one period of Islamic rule from the period of the prophet MuhammadSaw to the development of the present Islamic power.

– The history of Islamic civilization is the result of the results achieved by the Islamic ummah in the field of literature, science & art.- The history of Islamic slavery is the political progress or power of Islam that has the role of protecting the Islamic view of life, especially about worship, the use of language, & the biological norms of society.

4. Islam as a civilization

is said that when the Prophet received a report that his invitation to the Roman Emperor Heraclitus to hold on to the same belief (kalimatun saw) was subtly rejected, the prophet only commented shortly “sa uhajim al-ruum min uqri baiti”(I will fight the Romans from my house).

This saying of the Prophet is not a drum, he is just diplomacy. There is no physical threat & nor is it a side versus.

The remarks told the majesty of the leaflets, that from a small community in the barren Arabian peninsula, the Prophet believed Islam would develop into a civilization that would one-day defeatromawi.

In the 700s, more than 1/2 century after the death of the Prophet Muhammad (632 AD), the Islamic ummah had circulated to the regions of West Asia and North Africa, two areas that fell into the hands of Alexander the Great. Subsequently,

Muslims entered areas that were obsoletely controlled by Christians using without significant resistance. According to William R Cook from 711 AD – to 713 AD the Christian kingdom in the Mediterranean region fell into the hands of Muslims using without fighting,

although in the 7th century the area was quite prosperous. Even for about 300 years, the whole place could be a Muslim. It was not until the eleventh century that the Christian occupation of the place began to fight the Muslims. Demitri Gutas admits:

“…..in 732 AD new powers and civilities were established and arranged in sync using beliefs revealed to Muhammad, Islam, which developed as widely as Central Asia and the Indian subcontinent to the Mediterranean & Pyrennes.”

Gutas even stated that with the advent of Islamic civilization, Egypt for the first time, since the conquest of alexander the Great, could be united politically, administratively, and economically using Persian & Indian in the relatively obsolete period.

The economic &cultural differences that separate the two civilized globalities, the East and the West, before Islam came which was bounded by the two grand rivers easily disappeared out of thin air.
