Muslimcreed – If you’ve ever tried to get involved in helping out people who are in need, you know how difficult it can be to find the right organization that offers support where it’s most needed. Muslim Global Relief (MGR) is one of the few organizations that does what it does so well. When there are natural disasters all over the world, or when communities in Africa and the Middle East need extra support to help them survive and thrive, MGR sends aid their way – food, clothing, shelter, medicine – whatever they need to get back on their feet again.
What is Muslim Global Relief ?
Muslim Global Relief was founded to provide medical and emergency aid to victims of war, violence and natural disaster. Using resources from private donors, government funding and international aid groups, MGR ensures that people receive food, shelter, clothing, education and medical care. Since its inception in 2001, MGR has provided more than $70 million worth of assistance. Additionally, they have funded more than 260 projects around the world that have been administered by local non-governmental organizations (NGOs). These NGOs work with refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs), as well as at-risk populations like orphans and widows. In 2016 alone, MGR plans to administer over 500 projects valued at $38 million.
MGR was founded in 2001 by Dr. Tariq Sulaiman, a surgeon and humanitarian who was born and raised in Jerusalem. In 1993, while working with victims of war and natural disaster as part of an international relief team, he became aware of a desperate need for medical aid that wasn’t being met by other organizations. He partnered with Dr. Abdelaziz Azzouzi, an obstetrician and gynecologist from Morocco who shared his passion for improving people’s lives through humanitarian aid; thus Muslim Global Relief was born. Since then, MGR has responded to countless disasters around the world—including Hurricane Katrina (2005), Hurricane Matthew (2016) and multiple earthquakes—and received awards from numerous humanitarian agencies for their work.
The MGR Impact
In 2010, Muslim Global Relief (MGR) began providing aid after an earthquake devastated Haiti. In addition to digging out survivors, MGR began distributing critical supplies like food and water. The organization is also responsible for humanitarian efforts after many other disasters, including Typhoon Haiyan in 2013. They have quickly become a well-known charity around the world because of their commitment to helping those less fortunate—and they’re paving a path for others by doing so.

It can be difficult to find charities you can trust, but MGR’s good reputation is well-deserved. The organization has been recognized for its significant efforts in promoting development and helping those less fortunate by prestigious publications and organizations, such as Newsweek, UPI, International Business Times and many others. The organization is also proud of its sponsors and supporters—including several celebrities from film, television and music. These stars are proof that giving back is a priority for many people. It’s not just about what you can give; it’s also about who gives back.
