The month of Rajab which is full of historical events

The month of Rajab is a month that is
glorified by Allah, because in this month Muslims are prohibited from fighting.
On the other hand, Allah swt commands Muslims to honor and respect him. Even
when the month of Rajab came, the Prophet Muhammad also used to pray:

اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِيْ رَجَبَ وَشَعْبَانَ وَبَلِّغْنَا
رَمَضَانَ

Latin reading: Allahummabariklana fi
rajabawasya’banawaballighnaramadlana

Meaning: O Allah, bless us in the month of
Rajab and the month of Sha’ban and bring us to the month of Ramadan.

In Islamic history, the glory of the month
of Rajab also occurs because of several important historical events in this
month. Among them there are six historical events in the month of Rajab,
namely:

 

1. The journey of Isra and Mi’raj

In this month, the Prophet Muhammad
performed Isra and Mi’raj, traveling with the Angel Gabriel from the Kaaba in
Mecca to the Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. From there, the Prophet then traveled
through the seven heavens on the 27th of Rajab.

 

2. Beginning of Prayer Command

Muslims believe that when the Messenger of
Allah performed the Mi’raj of Prophet Muhammad (ascension to heaven) and Allah
swt established the obligatory prayers five times a day for every Muslim.

 

3. Battle of Tabuk

In this month, the Tabuk war took place to
coincide in the year 9 H./630 AD. The Battle of Tabuk took place in the month
of Rajab, nine years after the hijarah of the Prophet Muhammad. The call for
war was announced when the Byzantine Empire was mobilized to attack the Muslim
nation.

 

4. Liberation of Jerusalem

Also in the month of Rajab, the Jerusalem
area was liberated from the crusaders by Saladin Al-Ayubi in the year 583 of
the hijri calendar. The liberation march started by Muslim leader Imad ad-Din
Zingi, culminated in a landslide victory at the hands of Saldin.

 

 

5. End of the Islamic Caliphate

The caliphate was officially abolished on
28 Rajab in 1342 Hijriyah. The abolition of the caliphate occurred with the end
of the ottoman caliphate based in Turkey.

 

6. The first hijrah of the prophet
muhammad saw

the Prophet made the first hijra to
Habasyah in the month of Rajab in the fifth year of the prophethood.

 

7. Birth of Ali bin Abi Talib

3 Rajab the birthday of Ali bin Abi Talib.
He was born around 23 years pre-hijri / 599 AD in Mecca, the Hijaz region, the
Arabian Peninsula. He was one of the first to believe in the message of the
Prophet. In among children. He is also the cousin and son-in-law of the Prophet
Muhammad. After marrying Fatimah Az Zahra. He served as one of the fourth
caliphs from 656-661.

Sayyidina Ali bin Abi Talib was one of a
most beloved companions of the Prophet Muhammad. Although he is 32 years
younger than the Prophet Muhammad. It did not become a barrier for him to be
side by side in the struggle to uphold the religion of Islam with Muhammad saw.

When he was a child and a teenager, he
spent a lot of time with the Messenger of Allah. Thus, he received direct and
continuous education from the Messenger of Allah. And he was never polluted by
the practices and matters of ignorance. He died on the 21st of Ramadan 40 H/661
M.

 

8. The death of the Muslim imam

24/25 Rajab 261 H. Imam Muslim died. He is
a scholar who is juxtaposed with the name of Imam Al Bukhari in the narration
of hadith commonly referred to as muttafaq ‘alaih (agreed hadith). He was born
in Naisabur in 202 H./817 AD His full name is Imam Abu Al Husein Muslim bin Al
Hajjaj bin Muslim bin Kausaj Al-Qusyairi Al-Naisaburi.

Naisabur is one of the cities of knowledge
and the center of civilization in Central Asia, such as Baghdad in the Middle
Ages and Bukhara (the hometown of Imam Al Bukhari). Thanks to his sincerity and
seriousness, his book Sahih Muslim is the second most authentics book of hadith
(authoritative) after the authentic book of Al Bukhari. Apart from being a
reliable and conscientious narrator, Imam Muslim is also a prolific writer. He
wrote more than 10 books, the majority which were about aqidah and fiqh. Among
them are Al Jami ‘As Sahih (Sahih Muslim) and Al Musnad Al Kabir.

 

9. The death of Imam AsyShafi’i

At the end of the month Rajab, Nashirus
Sunnah, namely Imam AsySyafii died which coincided in 204 H. at the age in 54
years.

These are some important events the
occurred in month of Rajab in Islamic history. May we all not forget the
history that happened in this glorious month, and multiply the prayers taught
by the prophet in this month in Rajab.
